£7.6m raised by HGV Road User Levy in just 5 weeks
The Department for Transport (DfT) has raised £7.6m from levy fees alone, since the introduction of the HGV Road User Levy on 1 April.
£7.6m has been raised by the Department for Transport from levy fees alone, since the introduction of the HGV Road User Levy on April 1st.
After revealing the amount via Tweet, a spokesman for DfT said; “The sum has been generated over the first five weeks of the levy. It was derived purely from foreign-registered operators paying the charge and not from fines for failure to comply.”
At face value, this amount is much higher on a monthly basis that DfT’s previous prediction that the levy would only generate around £20 annually. However, in coming months there is likely to be a drop in levy revenue due to foreign-registered vehicle operators given the opportunity to pay a yearly levy fee instead of monthly.
DfT said that over 200 of the fines had been issued to operators due to failure to pay the HGV Road User Levy in its first two weeks.
Furthermore some 92,000 levies have been purchased during that period and Nearly 78,000 trucks have been registered by operators in 56 different countries.
